For more than thirty years, the Spanish law Ley 31/1988, known as the “Law of the Sky”, has protected the sky of the island of La Palma and the north of the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). This pioneering law has inspired other legislation around the world and hopes to continue doing so.
One of the objectives of EELabs is to extend the sky protection legislation currently applied in the Macaronesian municipalities where the LPLs will be installed. By the end of the project, three municipalities have committed to protect the natural darkness of the night by signing a collaboration agreement with the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias.
